Rights of orphaned, abandoned and other children

The National Insurance Institute is concerned about orphans, children with parents unable to provide protection and well-being, as well as children living without their parents or with only one of them.

The NII pays allowances for those children to their custodian: parent, guardian or appointed recipient of the allowance on behalf of the child.
The person who has custody of the children is entitled to receive
child allowance on their behalf.

Under National Insurance Law, are also considered as "child", a stepchild and an adopted child, as well as a grandchild fully supported by the insured, not including married youth. The child's rights apply up to between age 18 and 24, depending on the benefit paid. For example, child allowance is paid until the age of 18, while an increment for a child, which is paid to recipients of general disability pension, old-age and survivors pension, may be paid up to 24.
